TEXAS!!! Football Crazy or Just Crazy???

TEXAS! Football Crazy or Just Crazy?

FACT: In general, Texas is FOOTBALL CRAZY!

Small schools to large schools, if they have a football team, all have die-hard fans. I am not knocking it. There are few football fans on the planet that are bigger fans than me. Even schools that don’t often record wins have fans and some of those are as rabid as they come.

The question I pose today is: Can a person grow up in Texas and not be a football fan on some level, pee-wee to the pros? Well, the answer is yes. Some folks don’t care a fiddler’s dip about football. That is ok. It takes all kinds for to make this world turn. ALL KINDS!

A town whose team doesn’t win much doesn’t get as excited as the faithful following in a community that wins often. That is understandable based on everyone loves a winner. I might add here that even where winning is prevalent, not all choose to support those programs. IT TAKES ALL KINDS.

Just because you don’t support your local football team doesn’t mean you are a bad person. I love to eat steak. I have a very good friend that doesn’t eat meat period. We get along pretty good.

The question my readers are posing about right now is: Where are you going with this?

I made a trip to Richland Springs about three months ago. IF you don’t know about Richland Springs, you might be in the group that doesn’t like football. Not that there is anything wrong with that. They are a small school and their football team for the last several years has won more games than they have lost. A lot more. If you want to know how many more wins than losses, say since 2000, go to www.lonestarfootball.net and check it out. Go to Six-Man then go to Richland Springs. You can see a history of seasons past on the left hand side of the screen. If you are not a regular of LSFN, by all means sign up. It is free and there is a wealth of information.

I made a few pictures while I was there.

That 2011 State Championship Trophy happens to be one of five that the Coyotes have won.

These guys are either saying they have won FIVE or they are looking for TEN!

If you follow the wonderful sport of Six-Man football, you know about the “mercy rule”. A team that is 45 points ahead at the half or at any point in the second half is declared the victor and the game is over. That actually happens close to fifty percent of all Six-Man games. One of the roads leading into Richland Springs happens to be Farm Road 45. Think about it!

Good folks show support of what they like.

And what they don’t support.

IT TAKES ALL KINDS.

Spring Time! Things Happening!!!!

Today is Thursday March 29th, 2012. I establish the date for several friends that like knowing how long it is until the 2012 football season gets underway. I am not into Days, Hours, Minutes, and Seconds as some folks are but we are pretty near five months until kickoff at all the “Classics” around the state that will begin on Thursday August 30th. There are things going on right now and lots more on the horizon.

For instance:
we are just beginning the annual coaching carousal. These schools are currently looking to fill HC positions:
O'Donnell
Grandfalls-Royalty
Covington
New Home
Water Valley
Lazbuddie
Brookesmith
Campbell
Buckholts
Hedley

Are there currently others? Could be. Will there be others? Yes sir! This list is very fluid like and will be changing almost by the minute until the season begins!!!!!

You can’t get a new season going without having coaching clinics. It is impossible. With that said, you need to know that

Each speaker will make about a 45 minute presentation and we’ll have two or three chalk-talk breakout sessions. We’re working on topics (and if you have any ideas, let us know) but a couple that we’re thinking of is coordinating your sub-varsity and varsity programs and game logistics.

We have arranged a special $85/night rate with the LaQuinta Inn & Suites in Seguin (830-372-0567; ask for the Lifegate Coaches Clinic Rate). ROOMS WILL BE VERY LIMITED, so if you are planning to spend the night here, make your reservations now. Because of the growth of the “Eagle Ford” oil/gas developments in South Texas, many hotels are at full occupancy even 30-50 miles away from the main areas being developed.
