January 17 2013

Where have I been? I have not posted a blog in forever. That is a sure way to lose what small following I have. The football season is over so not much to write about. Throckmorton repeated as the D One champion and Richland Springs repeated, repeated in D Two. Congratulations to both of them. They are outstanding programs.

All District, All Regional, and All State teams have been announced. They are posted several places on the net. All were well deserving I am sure.

There is a group that has formed calling themselves something to do with Six-Man Sports Writers. I am part of it. I am sure there will be more to come about our group in the future. A goal of the group as I understand it is to establish a Six-Man Football Records book or page that would be comparable with the records found in the back of the Dave Campbell Texas Football publication except would include only Six-Man records and as I understand it only public schools. It is very much a work in progress.

I learned from reading on Granger Huntress' site, sixmanfootball.com, that the UIL has sent a form out to Superintendents asking their interest in playing the two Six-Man State Championships at the same site all other public schools classifications play theirs.Currently that is in Arlington. I am sure that would be great for the kids and that is why we should do it. Also read where Idaho small schools will have the option of playing Six-Man football beginning next season. It is supposed to be a three year trail period.

I spoke with an old friend today, Coach Lloyd Fields of Bulverde Bracken Christian. The last time we spoke was just prior to the start of this last season. He told me then his plans were to get through the season and retire for good. I was sorry to hear that. The good news is he told me today he thinks there is one more season left in him. He says it is not 100% certain that he will be back but he is leaning that direction. That is good for our sport I believe.

Some HC openings in Six-Man have happened already. I understand Miami parted ways with Jack Graves as well as their HC in basketball. The Basketball position was filled. I know there will be many more openings before next season.

Time to wrap up this one. Stay tuned.
