78 YEARS YOUNG
The sport known as Six-Man Football turned 78 years young this last week. Still going strong but no where is it stronger than TEXAS. 67 days we will start a new season. I am working to get a new directory for the coaches. Lots of changes again this year. I am never surprised when a head coach changes employment. The reason they change often does come as a surprise.
The Six-Man coaching clinic will happen mid July in Lubbock. Always a sign that the new season approaches. I hope to be there on Wednesday morning July 18th for the registration process.
Another sure sign we are getting close to a new season is being able to find the 2012 edition of Dave Campbell's Texas Football magazine. I found mine last Thursday in Abilene at Hastings. I have since spotted them on the racks of the Wal-Mart Supercenter 1650 Hwy 351 in Abilene. Get your copy and get yourself all worked up for the upcoming season. Should be another great one.

It Is Getting Hot
April 25th, 2012
Do you remember last summer? Me too. It was hotter than heck. As I check the weather on my iPhone I see the forecast for today and tomorrow here in Abilene calls for the high temperature to be 104. That is hot enough enough for the squirrels to be pouring Gatorade on their nuts! Trees will be fighting over dogs!! Farmers will be feeding their chickens ice to keep them from laying hard-boiled eggs!!!
Do you use Twitter? I can't function without it. My friends on twitter @texashsfootball remind me it is just 127 short days away from the start of the 2012 Texas High School Football Season. That is great news! Hundred degree days at the end of April not so.
The heat is going up concerning coaching changes as well. If you are the man changing it is big where you have been and where you are going. One BIG one that might surprise people is John York leaving Follett to become HC at Water Valley.
Congratulations to Coach JK Hester. He will be leading New Home. Adam Kirby will take over at Lazbuddie. More to come.

TEXAS!!! Football Crazy or Just Crazy???
TEXAS! Football Crazy or Just Crazy?
FACT: In general, Texas is FOOTBALL CRAZY!
Small schools to large schools, if they have a football team, all have die-hard fans. I am not knocking it. There are few football fans on the planet that are bigger fans than me. Even schools that don’t often record wins have fans and some of those are as rabid as they come.
The question I pose today is: Can a person grow up in Texas and not be a football fan on some level, pee-wee to the pros? Well, the answer is yes. Some folks don’t care a fiddler’s dip about football. That is ok. It takes all kinds for to make this world turn. ALL KINDS!
A town whose team doesn’t win much doesn’t get as excited as the faithful following in a community that wins often. That is understandable based on everyone loves a winner. I might add here that even where winning is prevalent, not all choose to support those programs. IT TAKES ALL KINDS.
Just because you don’t support your local football team doesn’t mean you are a bad person. I love to eat steak. I have a very good friend that doesn’t eat meat period. We get along pretty good.
The question my readers are posing about right now is: Where are you going with this?
I made a trip to Richland Springs about three months ago. IF you don’t know about Richland Springs, you might be in the group that doesn’t like football. Not that there is anything wrong with that. They are a small school and their football team for the last several years has won more games than they have lost. A lot more. If you want to know how many more wins than losses, say since 2000, go to www.lonestarfootball.net and check it out. Go to Six-Man then go to Richland Springs. You can see a history of seasons past on the left hand side of the screen. If you are not a regular of LSFN, by all means sign up. It is free and there is a wealth of information.
I made a few pictures while I was there.
That 2011 State Championship Trophy happens to be one of five that the Coyotes have won.
These guys are either saying they have won FIVE or they are looking for TEN!
If you follow the wonderful sport of Six-Man football, you know about the “mercy rule”. A team that is 45 points ahead at the half or at any point in the second half is declared the victor and the game is over. That actually happens close to fifty percent of all Six-Man games. One of the roads leading into Richland Springs happens to be Farm Road 45. Think about it!
Good folks show support of what they like.
And what they don’t support.
IT TAKES ALL KINDS.

Spring Time! Things Happening!!!!
Today is Thursday March 29th, 2012. I establish the date for several friends that like knowing how long it is until the 2012 football season gets underway. I am not into Days, Hours, Minutes, and Seconds as some folks are but we are pretty near five months until kickoff at all the “Classics” around the state that will begin on Thursday August 30th. There are things going on right now and lots more on the horizon.
For instance:
we are just beginning the annual coaching carousal. These schools are currently looking to fill HC positions:
O'Donnell
Grandfalls-Royalty
Covington
New Home
Water Valley
Lazbuddie
Brookesmith
Campbell
Buckholts
Hedley
Are there currently others? Could be. Will there be others? Yes sir! This list is very fluid like and will be changing almost by the minute until the season begins!!!!!
You can’t get a new season going without having coaching clinics. It is impossible. With that said, you need to know that

The registration form will be going out in early April. Registration includes lunch, beverages and a chance at door prizes.
RIDDELL ALL-AMERICAN and ALERT SERVICES representatives will be at the Clinic.
Also, the first TEN SCHOOLS who register for the Clinic will get a free Clinic DVD (either the 2010 or 2011 Clinic)! There will be a discount for early registration (including a special price for schools sending four or more coaches to the Clinic).

(One additional speaker to be named)
Each speaker will make about a 45 minute presentation and we’ll have two or three chalk-talk breakout sessions. We’re working on topics (and if you have any ideas, let us know) but a couple that we’re thinking of is coordinating your sub-varsity and varsity programs and game logistics.

ROOMS WILL BE VERY LIMITED, so if you are planning to spend the night here, make your reservations now. What Will Be and Could Have Been
U.I.L. realignment is upon us in just a couple of weeks. Those of us that are fans of Six-Man football are excited that some 11-Man schools with qualifying enrollment numbers (99.5 in top four grades) made the decision to join our ranks for the upcoming season.
As much as I love the Six-Man version of the game, I understand the potential conflict that exist when a community decides to move away from the 11-Man version and come "up" to the Six-Man level.
UNOFFICALLY, the schools that have chosen to make "THE MOVE" for the upcoming 2012 season that I am aware of are as follows:
CAMPBELL INDIANS
HIGH ISLAND CARDINALS
MARFA SHORTHORNS
NAZARETH SWIFTS
ROTAN YELLOWHAMMERS
SAVOY CARDINALS
WELCOME OT THE WORLD OF SIX-MAN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
There are other schools that could have elected to play Six-Man but CHOSE not to. We will welcome them when they are ready.
Those schools and their enrollment numbers are:
Roscoe 97
Union Hill 97
Bronte 96
Menard 93.5
Baird 93
Cross Plains 92.5
Frost 91
D'Hanis 87
Roby 81
Gorman 80
Leakey 78
Rocksprings 76
There are many other schools with enrollments 99.5 or below that CHOOSE not to field a football team that have a standing invitation to join our ranks as well. It is an extensive list that I am not posting at this time. YOU KNOW WHO YOU ARE.
February 2nd, the U.I.L. will release OFFICIAL classifications and realignments.
MORE TO FOLLOW AT THAT TIME.
